Beaver design Color

Beaver design B&W, Small

Beaver design B&W

Logo design Self-Assessment

1.Name of your company, a short paragraph describing what your company manufactures/sells and the target audience for the product.
I am the CEO of Animal Chews and we are making healthy snacks that will be appealing to children. Our goal is to make a snack that is very tasteful and something that kids will turn to not only as a treat but also, a snack that parents will want there kids to eat. The idea is that if we have a cute small animal as our logo the kids will be more appealed to it than they would be to a picture or an apple or a banana. On our bags/boxes we will have the beaver and our companies name, “Animal Chews.” We want the kids to think that the small little animals are cool and taste great. So in conclusion our over all goal is to have a great tasting snack that is good for the kids, and also something that the kids think is cool and really appealing to them.

2.Review the processes that Jacob Cass went through in designing his logo and Logo Design Secrets (and any other links that you found especially helpful). What parts of these processes did you use in your work. Please explain and be specific.
A major theme that I used was knowing what the company wanted. Since I am the CEO it was rather easy, yet I also tried to make things appealing to the target ages. This is something that he said was very important, and I drew the beaver because I thought tat that is something that is very important and kids will like.

Overall, what three important concepts have you learned about logo design? Explain why they are important to your future work? The use of colors and there effects on a design. If you use the right colors it can make your design look great, yet when it is put in black and white it may look horrible, so you need to make sure it works in both black and white, and color, which I think mine does. Also another is size, mine works better large yet it also works small. If you have a great design that works great blown up it may not work small. This is because of all the detail you have in the big version may make your design looked cramped and messy. The final one is probably the play with words. You may think my name of the company isn’t that great and appealing but it is supposed to be appealing to kids not adults. So I think that it is a appropriate name that kids will like. So over all I think these will help me make my designs in the future because I will play more with the design and words to make them maybe blend in a little more and be more affective.
4.
Review the criteria and the process of designing a logo, please rate your final logo design, 1-4 (4 is the highest). Please explain why your work deserves the rating.
I would give my self a 4. I worked hard on this piece and I really think it is a eye appealing design. I spent time working on it at home over the last two days and played around with colors and words. Yet I found my self going back to the originals because that is what I thought looked best. I like to believe that the beaver is going to be really appealing to kids and the way that it is set up with not too much stuff but not to little. To me it seems to be a pretty simple design and that is what I like. I like simple designs that get right to the point, and that is what my beaver design portrays. That is why I would give myself a 4.

Reflection Logo Design

  1. What significant changes has your logo gone through? I have done a lot of changed with the background and adding and taking away different things to try to make my design better. For example I have been experimenting on what the beaver is standing on, or how he is holding the words.
  2. Why did you make these changes? I made these changes or tried them because I wanted to make my design better. But I also tried some of the stuff because that was some of my feedback that I got.
  3. How much more work needs to go into the logo? What more do you need to do? (Please check criteria) I don't think I really need to add much more. I have made all the changes or at least tried the changes that people thought I should make when I was getting my feedback.
  4. What questions do you have? Where do we go from here. Like is there a way we could have it be like a poster type thing?

Q3 Reflection

What are you most proud of? What do you think are your strengths?
I would say I am most proud of my advertisement “wild west” sign. Because of the fact that I really think I placed and used the pictures to there full potential. I would say my strengths are finding pictures on the internet and finding the right way to place them to make a good effective design.

2. What would you like to do better and/or focus upon for Quarter four?
I really want to focus on the pen tool and being able to draw things in a strait line and not have the waviness in the lines. I also want to be able to draw some of my own images more and use some of my own designs.

3. How will you make this happen?
I can practice using the pen tool and use it when ever I have the chance to. I also think I can maybe find some different ways to make lines strait without the wave in them. But for the drawing more of my own images I think that is just going to take time and more experience to get down.

5 steps to logo design

The first important step is to know and completely understand what the logo means. You need to know what the logo is representing and how to best make it. You also need to understand and know what the product/thing is that you are making a design for.

Secondly you need to know the rules and principles of logo. You need to know what to use and how to use it right. Like using your tools, one tool may be better than the other. You need to know exactly what the person wants you design and the ideas behind it.

Thirdly you should be able to learn off other’s. You need to study other people designs and take away the good things that make that design a good one. But also you need to be able to pin point what the person did wrong so you don’t make the same mistakes in your own design. So by studying others work you can add and and take out things in your own design so it over all becomes a better piece of work.

Fourthly you need to walk outside of the line that other designers have made. You need to establish your own logo design process that is special and unique to yourself. If you can find your own process the work that you design will be like no one else's and it will either make it a lot better or kind of bad. But you need to keep thinking of new ways to design so when you do find that one way that works it will be great.

Fifthly and lastly you need to learn the software that you are using. You need to know how to use it well so you can complete your logo in a way that makes it look good. If you don’t know how to use your software or methods correctly your finished product will not be as great or good as it could have been if you had known all the right and best ways to create your design.

Rectangular Tessellation

Triangular Tessellation

1.
Which tessellation did you find more interesting to do? In what ways was it more interesting than the other? Please explain.
I think they are both very interesting. The animal one I liked because it had some symbolism, yet it was the same thing over again. The one picture one is more interesting and more eye appealing to me because when the shapes are put together they for more than one design. Which I think is very cool. The pictures one forms a very strong hexagon shape, which gives the design even more power and catching to the eye.
2.
Look at your peers' work on the ning . Which two designs do you find the most successful? What qualities make them so successful?
I think Devin’s is the most successful. Because it is very eye appealing and very simple. It was amazing to see how such a simple shape to start off with makes such a great design once it is all put together. Also the colors she chose made it look even better and more eye appealing. I also really like Olivia’s because it is a great design and is one of the few that actually looks like a real animal.
3.
Looking at the Grading Criteria for each design, how would you rate BOTH designs on a scale of 1-4, 4 being the highest? Please explain each grade.
Well I think that my first design is a little bit better just for detail and lining things up. My second design was not as successful yet I still do believe it is eye pealing and worthy of a solid 3, 3.5. So over all my two design I would give them a 3.5 because of there eye catchiness.

Introduction To Tessellation

#1- What is a tessellation?
A tessellation is a pictures or tile, that mostly forms animals or other life forms, which cover the surface of a plane in a symmetrical way without overlapping or leaving gaps. Most of the time the gaps are just as interesting as the filled in spaces.

#2-Write a couple of paragraphs describing the life and work of M.C. Escher. Pick out important facts that describe who he is, how he worked, and why he is famous.

Escher is very famous because he is regarded as the 'Father' of modern tessellations.
During his life, he was very fascinated with filling the plane with pictures that did not overlap or leave spaces. He was born in Leeuwarden, Holland on June 17th, 1898. Escher was the youngest of four brothers. His father was a civil engineer. The family moved to Arnhem where he grew up and went to high school. During his highschool years he became fascinated with pen and ink drawings. In 1918, Escher enrolled in the School for Architecture and Decorative Arts. Escher quickly developed his art skills tremendously especially in woodcutting. When he left the architecture school he went to Spain and this is where he got his tiling patterns from. After he visited Spain he visited Italy where he met Jetta, his future wife. He married Jetta and they lived in Rome together where they started a family.
1925 was a very big year for him, he produced some of his first tessellation. It was a block print of lions. He block printed it on silk in gold and silver.Yet after this work which he thought was very good, he was disappointed when many people didn't seem to like it. Yet this did not stop him from designing them. He then started to draw tessellations, of camels, squirrels, and bird. Escher produced his most famous art with the help of his brother yet he kept coming back to his main obsession of plane filling. His ideas were vary important to many forms of art like wallpaper and mind boggling designs. He produced over 137 tesallations, most of which were of reptiles and animals.
Escher died in a home for old artists on 27th March, 1972. Escher improved and made improvements to the different ways one could create tesallations.

Doodle for Google

A Happy, Clean Earth: “ I wish the world to be a clean, healthy, and fun place to live.”

“What I wish for the World...” What I wish for the World is that it can be a clean healthy place to live. A place where the oceans are clean and a place where kids can swim and sail. I wish for a World where animals can live in a habitat and not worry about if it will be cut down.

Sports: “What I wish for the World...” I wish for every person, kid in the world to had a chance to play sports and be active. Every kid needs a chance to be able to be apart of a team, to feel the importance and the entertainment that sports bring to ones life. Being active is a very important in being a healthy person. That is why my wish for the world is to give every person a chance to be on a team and be active.
How did you improve your designs, based on the feedback that you received from your peers? Please be specific... I really worked hard on my letters to make them stand out and be more bold. One of the biggest things I did though was to work on the trees in my first design. At first they were really small and not that defined, so I went back and fixed them making them for defined and stand out more. One last thing I did was to work on the G, with the sailboat in it. I went through many colors trying to find one that matched and looked the best. I even trued to make my own color yet that wasn’t to successful.

What three important things did you learn from completing this assignment? Explain why they are important to your learning as a design student? I learned, and used the magic wand a lot more and got a better understanding of how to use it more effectively. This helped me a lot when I had to create my own images. I also got a better understanding of how to draw and create my own images. The finale thing that I used was the trace tool. This came in handy when I wanted to trace and or make my own image.

Listed below are the criteria for this assignment. Based on the criteria, how successful do you feel your designs are? Please assign each design a number between 1 & 4 (4 is the highest). Justify your decision for each of your designs. I would give my first design a 3.5 because of it simple look, but then also its complicated look. That is why I like my first design so much. Also there are is a very good color scheme that I feel catches the eye. My second design I believe isn’t as successful as the first yet still brings that same intensity and simplicity that attracts the eye. If anything the second one is more simple, yet if I had more time I think I would have worked on the second g to make it better. For those reasons I would give myself a 3.25.

1. Make sure your design complements the shape of the letters in the Google logo, but don't let that restrict your creativity.
2. Experiment with different media to see which one works best for your design (you can even create your doodle on your PC).
3. Don't over-complicate your design – simpler images often have the most impact.
4. Remember that your design could end up on the Google homepage, so imagine how it will look on screen.
5. To find inspiration around the "What I Wish for the World?" theme, try thinking about the future and how you would like it to differ from the present.
6. Remember to use color well and think about how it interacts with a white background.
7. Avoid commercial or copyrighted images.
8. Think outside the box – try to create a doodle that's different from your classmates and hasn't been done before.
9. Feel free to use the space behind and in front of the Google letters, but try to maintain your design's overall balance.
10. Have fun! "Doodle 4 Google" is all about creativity and enjoying designing fun things. Think about how you want to change the world.

WILD WEST

Refelction

Which one of the four of your Text Designs is the most successful? In what ways? Please be specific. I think my best design is the worm race one. Because it is very simple yet the worms really are the focus of the design. The picture really represents the wording the best I think. Finally I think that the way the worms are put together and arranged gives it a better look.

List some of the tools that you learned and used in this assignment. Which ones did you find the most helpful and in what ways? I did a lot of zooming in and then erasing. I found this the best and fastest way to get the image to look the best. I also used the lasso tool a lot. It made it very easy for me to cut out the part of the picture I wanted instead of having to erase it all. I learned how to use the stamp to fill in areas of my design that I wanted to blend in and make it look like other areas of the design.

With regards to Design concepts and/or Photoshop tools, what do you think you need to know and what do you want to know? I want to know more about how to make my designs pop, or make them more eye appealing. I think I would be able to do this by learning more tools of shading, fading, and blending. I would also want to learn more about the magic wand tool. I want to to be able to use it more effectively to make my designs look more as a whole.

Type Design

1. Are you happy/satisfied with your design? What are some of the features that make it so successful? If you are not satisfied, what would you have done differently to make it more successful? Yes I am satisfied with my design. I think that the way I have my colors organized makes it really pop. Also where my focal point is, really catches the eye. And not having all my letters leaning the same way I think that it gives my piece more life and energy to it.
List some of the tools that you learned and used in this assignment. Which ones did you find the most helpful and in what ways? During this assignment I really learned how to use the layers successfully. Also I learned how to change the colors and found the many different fonts we could use. Another tool that I learned how to use was the rotating tool. I used it to rotated my letters to make and give them more energy.
With what areas/aspects of Photoshop do you have questions? What activities would help you better understand basic design concepts, along with more Photoshop tools, tips, and tricks? The only thing I had trouble with was the text tool and rotating tool. It was hard to try to figure out why keys to push to get the right tool you wanted. What would have help would have probably been just to give us some to time or a practice name project to do to help us get the tools down better. Or just have given us time to explore and mess around with the program.

Pop-Art

What is Pop-Art?
A form of art that puts objects and or scenes from everyday life and uses techniques of commercial art and popular illustration that is catching to the eye.

Brief biography (3 to 4 sentences) of Stuart Davis-
Stuart was born in 1894 and grew up in a very artistic environment. His father was art director for a Philadelphia newspaper, and as Stuart got older he became more fascinated with art. He studied with robert Henri and made covers and drawings for The Masses which was apart of the Ash-can School. This was a major turning point for him and in 1928 he went to Paris coming back with a whole new meaning of art. This was the start of pop art, Stuart used letters and symbols to ketch the eyes of people. The shapes and objects would pop out and almost looked layered in a way. He painted what he saw even though it appeared to be abstract.

Visa;1951 (100 Kb); Oil on canvas, 40 x 52 in; The Museum of Modern Art, New York.

I like this piece because when I look at it I see more than one meaning, or thing in it. And for every person you will see a different image or a different thing it his work. Over all I like this piece because a different meaning to art and shows how if the objects are placed in different places it really affects the final piece.

Brief biography (3 to 4 sentences) of Robert Indiana
Robert Indiana was born in 1928 and has been fascinated by art his whole life. He paints what he calls the American dream, what all Americans want. Yet he does it in a way that makes his art seem a far fetched elusion. Focusing on three main topics. Eat, Love, and Die. His art makes many people see and look at it in different ways and that is why so many people like his work and why it is so famous.

Artist: Robert Indiana, American (1928 - )
Title: The American Love
Year: 1975
Medium: Enamel Print on Metal
Size: 14 x 13.5 inches

I like this piece because it gives a special meaning to love. Adding the American colors into his piece also makes it patriotic and very appealing to the eyes. That is why I like it so much because it really defines America.
